Call for Abstracts – 2026

Every year, the Canadian Section of the IVR (International Association for Philosophy of Law and Social Philosophy) holds a conference devoted to subjects in law, legal theory, and moral and political philosophy. We welcome philosophical papers on any topics in these fields. However, this year we particularly encourage philosophy papers which focus on legal, moral, and political questions relating the following general theme: Peace, Democratic Governance, and the Rule of Law: Contemporary Issues and Threats. Examples include discussions focused on some aspect of international law, Indigenous rights, climate change, artificial intelligence, growing inequality of wealth, liberalism/post-liberalism.

The meeting will follow the usual format of the CS-IVR. Papers accepted for these sessions are circulated (via a Dropbox link) to those registered for the conference (to be read ahead of the meeting). Anyone who is registered can write commentaries on a paper (or papers). Commentaries are also circulated and read ahead of the meeting. To allow maximum time for discussion at these sessions, authors very briefly summarize their main points rather than reading their papers or commentaries.

Registration: If you submit an abstract that is accepted, you will automatically be on our registration list. You can also register to comment on a paper. Please e-mail cpanacci@uottawa.ca with a copy to nbrett@dal.ca to be added to the listserv for the conference.

*Please note: while the meeting is planned as in-person, there will also be an option to join remotely, via Zoom.
